Information for Hospital Representatives

How to get started:

  1. If you haven't already, watch the 9-minute video on the home page for an overview of what Kicking for Miracles Health Kick is all about.
  2. Work with the Tae Kwon Do school representative. Discuss and develop a plan for:
    • ACCEPTING DONATIONS
Recommend the preferred way you would like to receive donations (such as having all checks made out directly to your hospital, whether or not you will accept credit cards, etc.).
    • PAYING FOR EXPENSES
Discuss ahead of time what expenses will be paid for with proceeds from the event (such as printed materials, the cost of the boards, etc.). Decide if the Tae Kwon Do school will pay for the expenses and be reimbursed by the hospita, or if the hospital will pay for all expenses up front. If the Tae Kwon Do school will be reimbursed, stress the need for keeping all receipts!
    • SELECTING A SITE FOR THE EVENT
Smaller Tae Kwon Do Schools (150 or less students) can hold the event at their own school, or have the event in a shopping mall or plaza. Mid-size Tae Kwon Do schools (150 to 300 students) should rent a middle school or high school gym, preferably one with bleacher seating. Larger Tae Kwon Do schools will need to rent a college gymnasium or other large venue with seating.
    • PRINTING MATERIALS
There are several items that will need to be printed for this event (see the downloads area). Most Tae Kwon Do schools do not have a graphic designer to edit the materials. It is strongly recommended for the hospital to handle this aspect of the event (otherwise it can be a major stumbling block for most Tae Kwon Do schools). Discuss with the Tae Kwon Do school the quantities needed based on their expected number of participants.
    • SUPPLYING WOODEN BOARDS
The Tae Kwon Do school will already know a board supplier and will be able to help with supplying boards for the event.
    • DJ SOUND
A speaker system will be needed for the speeches and announcements. In addition, most events have a DJ to play music during the board breaking part of the event.
    • PRIZES FOR FUNDRAISERS
We recommend that all students who raise at least $35 receive a Kicking for Miracles Health Kick T-shirt. The Health Kick logo is available in the downloads area and can be provided to any T-shirt printer you select. In addition, it's recommended to have grand prizes for the top fundraisers. Of course, it's preferred to get all prizes donated from local area stores.
  3. Promote the event
    • The Tae Kwon Do school will promote the event to their own students by handing out fundraising packets and by making announcements at the school. External promotion (press releases, ads, flyers, etc.) is generally set up by the hospital.
    • Most Kicking for Miracles events feature local celebrities and sports figures as 'celebrity board breakers' at the event (as part of the speeches and check presentation). This is not necessary, but is useful in promoting the event.
  4. Have the Event
